Berlin Track&Trace

An international "Track and Trace" conference was held in Berlin, Germany on April 28th and 29th organized by ECA (European Compliance Academy) and attended by some 70 delegates representing several countries. PharmaVision participated in this meeting with a large contingent and also made one of the conference presentations. Additionally our company also organized officials of the Turkish Ministry of Health to make presentations about the 'Drug Tracking System' project, which Turkey is implementing as a pioneer country in the world and which will go live in June.

Drug counterfeiting has become a serious global threat to world health. Latest data indicate that nearly 10% of the global pharmaceutical market is comprised of fake drugs. As an effective preventive measure, it is envisaged to serialize each individual pack with a unique code. Considering that alone in Turkey ca. 2 billion boxes of pharmaceutical products, of which 1.3 billion are local production, enter the market every year, and taking into account all the equipment as well as computer systems that will need to be installed in all the distribution channels as well centers of the regulatory authorities, one can imagine the huge technical and financial dimensions of such a project. It is for this reason that, even in the advanced western countries such a large project has not been implemented yet. As an example, in the State of California in the US, a tracing system had to be postponed until 2015 because of complications in the implementation.

Turkey, on the other hand, demonstrated a close cooperation between the health authorities and the manufacturers, legislation was adopted quickly and as a result this project progressed very fast and attracted the attention of other countries as a model project.

A leading manufacturer in the Turkish pharmaceutical industry with an annual output of over 100 million packs, PharmaVision once again demonstrated its leadership position in this project. With timely and well planned choice of technology, equipment and computerized systems, all packaging lines were equipped with 2D matrix systems and validated assuring serialization coupled with electronic data security.

Because of this work, our company was invited to the conference to deliver a presentation and the project presented by Mr.Alper Bigeçarslan from our Engineering Department was very well received by the delegates.

PharmaVision will continue to be involved in such international organizations with the intention of increasing the respect of our Turkish pharmaceutical industry and contributing to its accelerated integration to the global industry.
