Our history dates back to 1954, when the German Hoechst AG established its Turkish subsidiary as one of the first foreign investments in our country. The company started its local manufacturing activities in 1956 in rented apartment facilities in downtown Istanbul. Land was acquired in 1965 in the present site Topkapı with the construction of pharmaceutical/chemical plant in the following year. Remodelling of the facilities was conducted between 1988 and 2000, bringing the site in line with current good manufacturing standards, ready for the 21st century.
Meanwhile the parent company acquired in full the French company Roussel Uclaf (RU) and the U.S. Company Marion Merrell Dow (MMD) in 1996 and became Hoechst Marion Roussel. In December 1999 another transformation followed with the merger of Hoechst Marion Roussel and Rhone Poulanc Rorer to form Aventis.
Aventis decided, in line with its global strategy, however, to basically rely on toll manufacturing activities. In these outsourcing efforts and based on the manufacturing excellence demonstrated by the Turkish site, the role of the MBO (Management Buyout) system was designated for Topkapı. The facilities have been renamed PharmaVision and transferred over to managers of the site as of the end of 2002.
